Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine for Children
Pediatric acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine offer safe, gentle alternative treatments for a variety of childhood ailments. Many of our young patients enjoy their treatments and look forward to coming each week.
Children and teens are treated with light, non-invasive needles in individual sessions that typically last from 15 to 30 minutes. Young and especially sensitive children usually sit with their parents during treatment, and may require a lighter approach. For babies and children who are averse to needles, we offer a Japanese form of pediatric acupuncture called Shonishin, which utilizes special tools to stimulate the acupuncture meridians. In many cases, babies and toddlers will also respond well to acupressure alone. Children of all ages usually respond quickly to treatments and our patients often see improvements in the same day. Depending on the nature of the illness, your child may only need one or two treatments. For more chronic illnesses, eight to ten treatments may be recommended.
Common conditions that can be effectively treated with acupuncture include:
- Colds and coughs
- Ear infections
- Digestive issues
- Sleep issues
